Classroom Session 1: Saturday 9am - 12mid day
Session one begins with meeting your instructor and fellow class members at Dive Experience, 7 / 44-56 Hampstead Road, Maidstone. In this session we will outline what you can expect during your course.
We will begin with all necessary paperwork and review the first chapters of the workbook that you have completed at home. Please be sure to bring your course books, a notebook and pen. Your instructor will then begin revision of the theory component which each students will have completed on-line or during home study. They will ensure all key points are covered and that each student has a firm understanding of the components.
After a short break each student will be allocated with their equipment which will be their personal responsibility for the duration of the course, prior to heading to the pool for the first in-water session.
Pool Session 1: 12mid day- 3pm
During this pool session we will begin learning and practicing the necessary skills to become a SCUBA diver including setting up your own equipment, equipment functions and diving techniques. A swim test and tread water practical session will also be conducted during this session. Please bring suitable swimwear and goggles if required. Upon completion of todays pool session we will return to the shop, rinse out all equipment and hang it to dry overnight.
Pool Session 2: Sunday 9.00am - 11am
This morning we will meet at the pool to continue the in water training sessions. We will review the skills we learnt during Saturdays session before moving onto the final skills needed to become an Open Water Diver. At the completion of the session the group will return to the shop to wash the equipment.
Classroom Session 2: 12pm - 30pm
This afternoon session will be used to cover any further components of the theory which need reviewing prior to complete the Open Water Scuba Diver Exam. Upon successful completion of the exam we will ensure all paperwork is completed covering both the theory training and pool sessions. Students will then be informed of the plans for the open water training to be completed the following weekend.
Open Water Session 1: 9.00am - 5.00pm
Each student will need to ensure they have their equipment with them and are at the designated meeting place at the allocated time. Shore dives will be conducted at dive sites around Williamstown or Queenscliff. Instructors will choose the most appropriate location based on conditions. The group will complete two shore dives over the day during which students will be asked to demonstrate the skills they learnt in the confined water sessions. It is recommended to bring along warm clothing and lunch for during the day. Each student again will be responsible for their equipment over the weekend ensuring it is rinsed out at the end of each day and stored in a secure location.
Open Water Session 2: Varied times
The second round of open water dives will be conducted as boat dives off the charters boats operated by the Dive Victoria Group.
Boats depart from both Portsea and Queenscliff. Dive Experience dive courses will be departing from the Queenscliff location. Dive times will vary each weekend due to tides so ensure you check with your instructor as to your departure times and what time you will be required to meet. The group will complete two boat dives over the day. Milo and biscuits are supplied on board however it is once again recommended to bring lunch and warm clothing.
At the completion of the dives we will return to the Queenscliff Dive Centre to complete all remaining paperwork and certify each successful participant as an open water diver.
All Dive Experience Scuba courses are run to the standards of both SSI (Scuba Schools International) and the Australian Adventure Activity Standards. Successful participants will receive a worldwide rating which allows them to dive unsupervised with a qualified buddy to 18m. Participants under the age of 15years will be eligible to receive a Junior Open Water rating which qualifies them to dive to a depth of 12m under the direct supervision of a dive professional, parent or guardian.
